Joseph Burr Tyrrell Photographs Added to Fisher's Flickr Page
Over 1200 items from the J.B. Tyrrell Collection have recently been added to the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library’s Flickr site. Joseph Burr Tyrrell (1858-1957) was a Canadian Geologist, Surveyor and Mining Engineer, best known for discovering the first dinosaur remains in the Red Deer River. Tyrrell traveled extensively in Northern Manitoba, Alberta and the Yukon from the 1880s to the late 1920s. The digitized sets include panorama photographs of Dawson City and the surrounding area, photos of aboriginal people, and mining operations in Northern Canada, as well as photographs of his family and friends in the Toronto area.

We are grateful to the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation for their support of this project.
Additional information on Tyrrell and his exploration of the Nunavut region is available at the Barren Lands digital collection.
